Vandyk moves forward with West Park Village expansion

In the summer of 2014, Council gave initial approval to a Vandyk development expansion west of Canadian Tire (see map below).  Then in the Summer of 2016, Vandyk put 62 Townhomes and 10 semi-detached homes up for sale.  By the end of 2016 they were sold out and now they have asked council for approval of a “Pre-Servicing Agreement”.  That allows them to start work – finally.  Since the development is sold out, their sales office and model home are closed but their web site gives contact information (see links below).  Vandyk is a large developer with a presence in Brampton, Etobicoke, Sarasota, Mississauga, Shelburne and Oakville as well as Cobourg.

The development is bordered by Canadian Tire, Carlisle Street and Wilkins Gate with an entrance from Greenly.  As well as the homes, Vandyke also plans a Commercial plaza with three buildings and a path (lane) from the residential area.  Entrance is from Highway 2 (right in, right out) or from th Canadian Tire “Driveway”.

Maybe a restaurant and convenience store will want to go in the Plaza?

Right now, the land is vacant and a good looking plaza on Highway 2 would be an improvement there.  The homes will add maybe a couple of hundred to Cobourg’s population and they look good for the original advertised prices of “from the $260’s for Townhomes  and $350’s for semis” given today’s average prices of around $450,000.

I find if puzzling why they are adding retail space in the form of a strip mall right there near Northumberland Mall when the mall already has oodles of space available.
