Multiple arrests for drug offences

Maybe it’s Spring that brings them out but lately Cobourg police have arrested several people for drug offences. It also seems that Police foot patrols in the downtown core have helped with this. One of those arrested, 43 year old Eric Bremner, seems to not know how to stay out of trouble – not only was he arrested for possessing fentanyl and carrying a “concealed weapon”, a knife, but he was also charged with “failing to appear in court” and violating probation. In February, he was charged with stealing credit cards then buying stuff with them. This time, instead of the common Police practice of releasing from custody with a promise to appear, he was held for a bail hearing. As well as Eric, five others were charged with drug offences in the last week.

The police press release for Eric said that on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in the downtown area, at approximately 3:40 pm, police saw Eric Bremner and, knowing that he had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to attend court, they arrested him. They then found on him “a quantity of suspected fentanyl and a knife.”

Ten minutes earlier (this has to be related or a big coincidence) police arrested 32 year old Alisha Kincaid and 37 year old William Hadley who they suspected of trafficking in cocaine.

Police then executed a search warrant at a downtown address and “a quantity of suspected cocaine, weight scales, pipes and packaging was located in the residence”.

But there’s more.

On May 22, officers on patrol in the downtown core conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for suspected Highway Traffic Act offences. As a result, driver 28 year old Malcolm Stephenson of Tyrone was charged with possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. Passenger 28 year old Lance McArthur of Ajax was also charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. Both were held for a bail hearing.

Then also on the same day, police executed a search warrant at a residence in the downtown core and as a result 41 year old Jeffery O’Neil of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime and failure to comply with probation order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

That’s six people arrested inside a week for drug offences. All were downtown and several arrests were because of police patrols downtown.
