Town closes CCC and postpones Municipal Events

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Town of Cobourg is postponing all Town-events, programs and classes taking place at the Cobourg Community Centre, Concert Hall at Victoria Hall, Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre and Victoria Hall.

This includes all classes, recreational programs, facility spaces, March Break camps, gymnasiums, rinks and walking spaces. The CCC will be closed effective 8:00 am Friday 13. Minor Hockey will also be suspended.  Full refunds will be issued for all payments that have been received for cancelled programs.

Victoria Hall and other Municipal buildings will remain open but citizens are discouraged from gathering there.  As yet there is no word on whether entertainment events booked at Victoria Hall are affected (they do involve gatherings!) – see updates below.  Meanwhile, Port Hope’s Capitol Theatre today announced they will be continuing with their program.

Further details will be made available on this site as soon as possible – stay tuned.

County Update # 2

Golden Plough Lodge

At the direction of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Golden Plough Lodge has now restricted visitation to essential visitors only in order to protect the health and safety of residents. Essential visitors are defined as having very ill or end-of-life family members. Visitor access to the GPL is available through the Courthouse Road entrance only. Active screening for COVID-19 is in place for all staff and visitors entering the facility.

Licensed Child Care Centres

The following licensed child care centres have announced closures:

  • All YMCA Child Care Programs and Camps
  • Brighton Children’s Centre
  • Ganaraska Child Care Centre
  • Compass Early Learning
  • Cobourg Day Care

Licensed child care centres that remain open are following the direction of Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and the HKPR District Health Unit to implement active screening: checking children, parents, staff and visitors for any symptoms of COVID-19, and asking about recent travel history.

Footnote

Although the Town and County have not given a reopen date, it seems from what has been cancelled that Town closures are currently scheduled up to April 5.

Ontario’s chief medical officer of health today (March 13) recommended the immediate suspension of all large events and public gatherings of over 250 people due to COVID-19.
