La Jeunesse Choirs  Re-starting

La Jeunesse Choirs was shut down because of Covid but they are now holding auditions – they are currently looking for youth ages 7-18 to audition for their 2022-2023 season. Auditions are being held at Cobourg’s United Church with the next audition day coming up: Saturday, August 13th!  See Resources below for signup link.  Rehearsals start September 13, 2022. Their schedule includes two concerts (one around Christmas) plus a Musical Theatre event in 2023 at Victoria Hall: Disney’s Descendants on May 19th and 20th. Tickets will be available for these events at Victoria Hall’s box office.

La Jeunesse Choirs is a dedicated and respected charitable organization whose mission is to support, share and celebrate the diverse musical talents of Northumberland Ontario’s youth.

Descendants - the Musical
Descendants – the Musical

Since its inception in 1988, La Jeunesse Choir has provided its members with the highest possible calibre of musical experience and training. From an initial membership of 20 girls in one choir, the choir has evolved and changed over the years, with the welcoming of other genders, and in response to the changing numbers of choristers in each year.

At the moment, there are three groups: a Children’s Choir, a Senior Choir, and a Musical Theatre Intensive Program with choristers ranging in age from seven to 18. The choirs draw from youth from across Northumberland County and beyond.  The Artistic Director is Markus Howard – there’s more detail at their web site.

Auditions

No experience is necessary, and the audition process is designed to be fun and non-threatening.

New singers are asked to prepare a familiar piece in any style to be sung “a capella”, with piano accompaniment (we can accompany) or with an mp3 on their phone. Children wishing to audition in pairs are encouraged to do so if they require the support, but they may be asked to sing on their own. We can audition new members at several points in the year.

Email ljchoirs@gmail.com to book an audition or visit their web site or facebook page for more information – see Resources below.

If accepted, a fee is charged to join the group and receive training but the experience is priceless.

It can be an excellent learning experience for children. Parents can volunteer as much or little as they wish. Fund raising and set building/painting are some of the ways parents can get involved. There was much work for The Lion King Jr. in 2019. I am looking forward to watching Descendants. It really is a great activity.
