The People’s Party of Canada (PPC) was launched by Maxime Bernier on September 14, 2018 when he broke away from the Conservative Party. Elections Canada gave it official recognition on January 18, 2019. The federal election on October 21 is not that far away and Jeff Wheeldon, Green Party Candidate, held a “meet and greet” in Newcastle tonight.  Jeff and his team have been campaigning in Newcastle and left 1000 pamphlets and invitations to the event at nearby homes.  The Green Party feels that they are on a roll with double the number of MPs (2 up from 1) and polls showing  9.8% support, up from 3.4% in the last election – so confidence is high in making a difference.  Certainly the talk in the room was positive.  The meeting was held in the Newcastle Community Town Hall and because it was a meet and greet spread over more than 2 hours, at… Read complete articleGreen Party Launches Election Campaign

Jeff was the Green Party Candidate for the recent Provincial election and will now represent the party in the October Federal Election. An estimated 600 people showed up for the Conservative Nomination meeting held at St. Mary’s school today to hear speeches by each of the 5 candidates.  More than 50% of party members in the riding voted – some voted without hearing the candidates’ final speeches probably because they couldn’t get there in time since the parking lot was full to overflowing.  The school auditorium was also overflowing and the voting took close to the full two hours allocated.  The voting used ranked ballots which allowed voters to indicate their second, third and even fourth choices.  The vote was very close for all candidates but in the end Philip Lawrence was declared the winner after four rounds of vote counting (more… Read complete articleConservatives choose Candidate for October election

The new People’s Party of Canada (PPC) held an inaugural meeting in Cobourg tonight to establish their Electoral District Association (EDA) for Northumberland Peterborough South.  The new Federal Party was established in September 2018 when Maxime Bernier broke away from the Conservative Party.  With almost 40,000 members across Canada but not yet an official party, it is racing against time to be set up for the next federal election in October 2019.  At the meeting, a new executive was elected, or rather nominated since their confirmation is subject to some background checking.  There were about 18 people at the meeting held in Arthur’s pub – more than expected by organizer Adam Gray from Belleville.  All ages were represented with about… Read complete articleNew Party established in Riding
