Cobourg Internet is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of commenters, contributors and any other stakeholders. The trust of those dealt with is valued and it is recognized that maintaining this trust requires transparency and accountability in how the information that you choose to share is treated.

Defining personal information
Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. Exceptions: business contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories, are not considered personal information.  On this site, the only personal information collected is via comments and users.

Comments
The most likely way that Cobourg Internet will get access to private information is via the comments on News items.  To minimize spam, the email address and IP address are collected and are classified as “private” per this policy.  Comments themselves are not private since they can be seen publicly.  Spam is minimized by using an Anti-spam plugin which does not collect private information.

Google Ads

  • Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to the website

Users
If you register, then your name, user name, password and IP address are taken and stored.  If you do not register, then your email address and IP address are collected.

Letters to the Editor
Although related to this site, letters to the editor are filed on the Cobourg Internet site and subject to that site’s Privacy Policy.

Privacy practices
During the course of various projects and activities, sometimes personal information is gathered and used. Personal information of a private nature which is related to any news items will not be released although it should be noted that it is no longer private if it has already been published in a news channel accessible to the public.

Anyone from whom such information is collected, should expect that it will be carefully protected and that any use of or other dealing with this information is subject to consent. Cobourg Internet’s privacy practices are designed to achieve this.

Personal information gathered by Cobourg Internet is kept in confidence. Cobourg Internet’s personnel are authorized to access personal information based only on their need to deal with information for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. Cobourg Internet also takes measures to ensure the integrity of this information is maintained and to prevent its being lost or destroyed.

There is no tracking of personal surfing practices on this site.  Advertising is done using the services of Google’s Adsense and any personal tailoring of advertising is done by them.  No information about users is provided by Cobourg Internet to Google or anyone else.

Please check the web-site on an on-going basis for information on most up-to-date practices.  Note that this site is not intended for visitors in Europe so is therefore not compliant with GDPR and does not use a Consent Management Platform.
